I created this painting to accompany my Nature Microbiology manuscript, "Genome-resolved metagenomics reveals site-specific diversity of episymbiotic CPR bacteria and DPANN archaea in groundwater ecosystems."

This painting emphasizes the enormous role that unseen microbes play in our lives, particularly their prevalence in groundwater that serves as drinking water for a large fraction of the population. The majority of microbial life is located in the ground beneath our feet, an environment that remains relatively unexplored.
